A first look — then a conversation
Paste an essay. Get a score and a reason. Then talk to the student. Do not fail anyone on a percentage alone.
How to use it in class
Scan a draft when something feels off. Read the reason. If the meter lands on mixed or AI, that is a prompt to ask how the work was made — not a conviction.
What will fool you
Short answers under ~150 words are unreliable. Formal ESL can look smooth. Students who rewrite a generator’s draft are harder to flag. A low score is not a gold star for originality.
The honest line
This is a forensic estimate. It is not the sole basis for academic punishment. Pair it with process: drafts, in-class writing, and a human conversation.
